Sally-Part 17. A READER'S QUESTION ANSWERED !

In answer to my reader's question , " If all you do is eat in terrible restaurants then why do you continue to eat out? "

Well today the 1st of March was an absolutely beautiful, warm and sunny day and Shirley decided that I wanted  to have another day out,  to Beadnell Bay,  which is the most fantastic two mile sweep of sand and clear water where you can watch the sun set over the sea which is quite odd for an east-facing coast. Not sure of the reason.

Shirley , short but very fast on Beadnell Bay beach

After a long walk, a picnic and a snooze we walked to the fabulous Newton by the Sea for a coffee at The Ship which is a pub set in a square of cottages on the shore serving gorgeous food which we had just missed so we didn't eat there!

We planned to eat at Boulmer at The Fishing Boat, set above another beach but that didn't open for an hour so we didn't eat there either and drove into Alnmouth where we didn't like the look of any of the four pubs  so we didn't eat there and drove into Warkworth where we didn't fancy any of the menus on display in each of the three pubs so we didn't eat there and  then  drove into Amble where a great looking Italian restaurant at three minutes to six wouldn't serve a "Happy Hour" meal unless I could get parked properly and back and ordered by six so we didn't eat there ( what and pay an extra pound? On your bike mate?! ) and  drove back via the Broadway and had two half portions of the usual...sweet and sour chicken balls, fried rice inside and small prawn with cashew nuts, fried rice inside, and a portion of bean sprouts from the best Chinese takeaway in the world and if they only had tables and chairs they would became my restaurant of choice and wolfed them down at home! Delicious!

I bet you're sorry you asked!

  1. Can't believe no account of the items you were made to carry on the "long walk" and none of mums directions as to what you were doing wrong! Must have been an almost normal day trip.

  2. I didn't know about Beadnell Bay facing West. It is one of only 2 things lacking in the North East - sunsets over water. I will be making a trip there soon.

  3. Surely that fact is along the same lines as dad's 'waterproof leather glasses cases favoured by scuba divers' I.e. made up!

  4. If you wish to see a sunset over the sea from an eastern shore go to Hunstanton.
